Help with adding an NVidia card to an ATI setup???

Wondering how hard it would be to run a NVidia card in ATI setup? I was hoping that i could just install the card and drivers and be on my way. If it isn't that simple, Please let me know.

I want to run both cards in same machine for ATI-Dnet NVidia-PG

current set-up
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T
ATI Radeon HD5970 (Cypress) (2048MB) driver: 1.4.880
Microsoft Windows 7
x64 Edition, (06.01.7600.00)

download latest drivers for both ATI and Nvidia, then follow links in This Article. as an added bonus you then gain full Physx support from the nvidia card while using the ati as your main (if that matters to you). I just setup my box this way yesterday so I know it works.

I've installed the NVidia card, but it is not detected so the drivers would'nt install either. havent figured it out yet. ideals?

The next best thing, i just swapped the cards for now when i get bored i'll try installing an ATI card in an NVidia rig. So far the 580 seems to be doing it's job @ 5:32 per task PrimeGrid.

for the record, I tried this several months ago and couldn't get it to work either so finally gave up, then this weekend thought "what the heck" and it all just worked the first time.
I have no idea why it wouldn't detect the card, unless, did you hook up a monitor to the nvidia card? the patch in that link I posted removes the need for a monitor on the nvidia card but during driver install it may need it. I had one connected and just unplugged it after done.

Although it was'nt a success the first go, i'll try again. No i never did plug a monitor to the NVidia card. I won't forget that tip next time i try, just might work for me. The Nvidia card is running PG now and i removed the ATI card so far i'm happy with results. Until you know, MORE,MORE I NEED MORE.

The dual GPU Ati-nVidia combo is really the best of both worlds, as it supplies PhysX for games you might play with your Ati Card -as Liuqyn already pointed out-, and your PC as a cruncher can do two GPU projects at the same time, and you can set the preferences so that you might split the jobs to the cards that are best suited for it, e.g. both MilkyWay (great on Ati) and PrimeGrid (great on nVidia).

Yeah, sitting here already missing the 400,00 daily points at Dnet, will be trying the dual install again tommorrow.

I just wish I could afford to upgrade the GPUs I currently have in my dual box. hd4850 and 9800gtx+.
