    Boinc-Pentathlon

    Dear members of AMD Users,

From the 5th to 19th May 2010 SETI.Germany is arraging a completely new competition: the BOINC Pentathlon. This new cross-project competition is inspired by the Pentathlon of the ancient world.

Like in the ancient Greece we'll also perform this BOINC Pentathlon by running 5 different disciplines. This means within 2 weeks the participants will need to crunch 5 different projects, each for 5 days.

Each team that wants to participate in the BOINC Pentathlon needs to sign up here (possible until 1st of May).

More information regarding the BOINC Pentathlon can be found here.

Your participation is very much appreciated.

poster's info says 5 projects in 2 weeks
but the site says 5 projects for 5 days each
    so 25 consecutive days (tough)
or 25 workdays out of 35 calendar days (better)
Not knowing the projects up front is definitely inspiring :D

    /edit-
ok - I mis-read the site - yes it is 5 projects for 5 days each (min) all to be done within 2 weeks (14 days) per person
aha - yes that is indeed the challenge.
    Uh huh. Most definitely.

heh............ Interesting concept, and if I was a boinc person I'd likely go for it. But alas......... I'm just a little old rc5 addict that is doing good just crunching a bit on that. Would be interesting to watch this progress through the contest though, like the team races we have had here in the past.

The first project is Einstein. They will count all points allocated by the project between 5-10 May. As Einstein takes some time to crunch each task (eg >8 hours) and the points are not allocated until several people crunch the same task ... get started N O W.

New around here, but wanted to let you know that I will be participating in the Boinc Pentathlon. I see the second project is MilkyWay, I do not have a qualifying GPU so would just doing CPU WUs rack up enough points, or would it be better to stick with Einstein and project three as much as I can?

    Hey SuicideCabbage! Welcome aboard!

I don't have a gpu capable for Milkyway either, but from past experiences trying the cpu counterparts on projects with both gpu and cpu always leaves you way behind everyone else. I can't say this is the case for Milkyway because I haven't tried it either, I could be wrong, but it's just what I've gathered from other projects.
I guess all I can say is that it's your decision to try it or not, but in a race every single credit counts towards the total.

Have fun and feel free to post any time or ask questions if you have doubts. We are all friendly here.
